This is almost complete, and I will be posting pictures as I finish everything. My goal for this party was to make it be one of Barney's episodes. Barney is always getting kids to use their imagination to experience really cool things. So once the kids are settled in and finished with their craft, Barney and the gang will show up, and sing the "Imagination" song, and try to imagine a world "full of candy" and then they will enter the Candyland, which will be a life size version of the game.
This particular theme, would work for Barney or candy land. You can omit the Barney parts, or you can omit the candy land parts, and just have Barney. Regardless, Barney is still a very very popular character. So you can use this theme to suit your needs.
-Invites-
I've already posted pictures of my sample that I am using for my invite for this party. It's in the shape of a lollipop stick. I will also be passing out a candyland cupcake with each invitation. The cupcake I'm going to sit inside an ice cream cone, and put two gum drops on it, a chocolate kiss, a peppermint, and a dum-dum lollipop.
Also, because this is an Adventure with Barney in Candy Land party, for each child I will also be attaching a CD with the songs that we will be using at the party, so that they can memorize them, etc. Also on the CD will be a DVD for the Barney, Mr. Knickerbocker dance, because Barney, Baby Bop and BJ will be doing that dance with the kids during the singing and dancing part.
-Games-
There is going to be a life size version of the game Candy Land. There will be 15 stops, 8 of those will be stops from the game candy land, and 8 of those will be stops that each represent a Barney movie.
The Candy Land Stops- Plumpy
, Peppermint Forest, Gumdrop Mountains, Licorice Forest, Peanut Acres, Lollipop Woods, Ice Cream Sea, and Chocolate Swamp
The Barney Stops- Jerrica's House, 123 Learn, Grandpa's Farm, Color's Land, Imagination Island, Musical Zoo, ABC Land, and Barney's House
Each stop will have a combination of some of the following, singing, dancing, activity, craft or game. I will describe each stop under the decoration's section.
-Decorations-
I'm going to list decoration's by section, because it's easier.
The front yard-
I will set up the tree that's in the front of my yard as Plumpy and hang purple balloons on the branches (the plums) and the kids will get to pop one when they get to that section. Each balloon will have a number, 1, 2, or 3 which will relate to a prize, because at this age group, I do not want any losers! On both sides of the drive way, I will alternate large lollipops and candy canes so that they are lining the entire drive way. There will also be a cluster of balloons at the end of the drive way on both sides.
On the front lawn, I will have giant candy sticks, more balloon clusters, and large lollipops. All of these decorations, I am making myself so I'll be posting more on each of these individually. There will be a huge banner hanging from the front porch that says "Welcome to Candy Land" Also somewhere in the yard will be a 4ft tall Barney, Baby Bop, and BJ that I will be making and painting.
Jerrica's House- will be the Dining Room and Living Room. I will have a photo collage on display. I will also have mini Barney and friends centerpieces that I'll make using cardboard, foam, and a dowel and base.I will have a Barney and friends banner, that says Happy 3rd Birthday Jerrica, that I'll be making myself. Here in Jerrica's House, they will decorate their treat buckets that they will need for the game, and I will also read my story of Adventure with Barney in Candy Land. I will be using the story for candy land, but editing it to make it my own including Barney and friends. They will also receive their game sheets, which they will need for the game as well.
As far as decorations in this section, there will be tons of balloon clusters geared towards Barney, Barney clusters- purple and green, Baby bop clusters- green and pink, BJ clusters- yellow and red. I will be using small Barney stuffed animals as weights.
For the craft table, I will have buckets available, with pre measured cut paper of all kinds of different colors, stickers- Barney and candy stickers, markers, glitter glue.
123 Learn- will be in the garage. I will have different numbers everywhere on the walls in different fonts for decorations. I will also have different shapes cut out and on the walls. There will be 10 stepping stones, numbered 1-10 in order, and the activity here is for the children to count the stepping stones. The stepping stones will lead out of the garage. The songs here will be: Barney I'm so Happy, and We Like Shapes. After each child counts to 10 on the stepping stones, they will receive a small prize for their buckets.
Plumpy- As I mentioned earlier this is a tree that is in my front yard, and I will be hanging "plums" on there with slips of paper tucked inside, and each child will have to pop a balloon to see what prize they get for their bucket. The sign will say "Plumpy" and be purple with white lettering.
Peppermint Forrest- I will have candy canes all over this section, as well as giant candy sticks that I have made. I'm also going to take a foam cone, and hot glue mints all over it so that it is covered, and put a couple of those on a foam sheet, so it looks like mint trees. I'm going to hang red and white streamers between the giant candy sticks. Also I'm going to have a few red and white balloon clusters, and a few red and white pom poms. I might put up a few red and white paper lanterns as well.
The activity here will be to weed out the candy sticks that don't belong, and the kids will be able to put those in their treat bucket. The candy sticks will be colored that don't belong.
The sign will be painted red with white lettering that says "Peppermint Forrest" and glued to a candy stick.
Grandpa's Farm- The decoration's here will be all kinds of farm animals, cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, skunk, horses (stuffed animals, and paintings). The craft table will be set up to look like a produce stand, that will have a sign saying "produce stand". The craft here will be to plant a seed and water it. Each child will receive a mini pot, soil, and a vegetable seed, where they will be able to plant it, and then water it with the bucket. The songs here will be "Barney On the Way To Grandpa's Farm, and Old MacDonald". There will also be a game, "What's that Animal Sound" Toddlers love animals!
Gumdrop Mountains- I will have tons of giant gumdrops here that I'm making from paper mache. I'm also going to paint three large gum drop mountains on a refrigerator box, and sprinkle with glue and attach these to my child's slide, so that will be the Gumdrop Mountain. I will have a large Lolly on display here too. I'm also going to have a gumdrop ball, where I will cover the entire styrofoam ball with gumdrops.
The activity here is to hunt for boxes of dots among the gumdrops. The game here is to climb the mountain (the slide) and try and drop 10 gumdrops into a glass container at the bottom of the mountain. Once they have completed, then they get to slide down the mountain.
Colors Land- I'm going to be making large crayons out of cardboard and staking these into the ground for decorations. I'm also going to paint a huge rainbow and have that on display as well. Here there will be a craft table, where each child will receive three mini paper plates, where there are two colors of paint on each plate. They will also receive a brush, and they will mix red and blue to make purple, red and yellow to make orange and blue and yellow to make green. The songs here will be Barney When You Mix, and Rainbow" The kids will receive a box of crayons for their bucket.
Licorice Forrest- I'm going to be making huge licorice trees out of carpet rolls for this section. Some I will cover in black, and some in red for licorice. I will be leaving lots on the bottom of the trees and twisting them to look like large overgrown roots. There will be red and black balloon clusters. The activity here will be to avoid stepping on the licorice vines because they might grab you. Here the kids will receive a pack of twizzlers.
Imagination Island- Here I will have tons of pirate decorations, palm trees, coconuts and treasure chests as decorations. The songs here will be Just Imagine, and Going on a Jungle Adventure. The activity here is that within the treasure chests, are treasure maps. There will be one for each child with their name on it and the children will have to follow their map to receive their prize. They will also receive a gold coin here.
Peanut Acres- I'm going to turn my daughter's house into Gramma Nut's House by taking a sheet and hot gluing peanut shells all over it and then draping it over the play house. I'm also going to have giant peanuts scattered, which I have already posted a tutorial in an earlier post on. The sign will say Peanut Acres, and I will hot glue some peanuts on it.
The activity will be to gather all the peanuts that are scattered on the ground and put them on a baking sheet, which I will then pop into the "play oven" and have everyone count to 10 and then I will pull out a second tray that has wrapped nutter butter cookies which I will pass out to each child for their bucket.
I'm going to make Peanut acres by creating peanut bushes out of cardboard. I'm going to cut out the bushes and glue crumbled green tissue paper all over them, then I'm going to hot glue peanuts all over it. Once I've got quite a lot of bushes, I will create a cardboard base to glue the bushes on.
Musical Zoo- Here I'm going to have different jungle animals(stuffed and inflatable) scattered around. There will be a craft table set up, where kids will be able to make music shakers by pouring a little rice in a cup and then taping another cup to it and they will be able to decorate it. There will also be different animal masks that each child will get to pick one, that they will get to keep. With their music shakers and animal masks, they will have a musical parade to the Barney song "Elephant". There will also be the Barney song "Every Animal Talks"
Lollipop Woods- I'm going to glue two plates together, attach to a dowel rod, wrap in cellophane and tie ribbon on it for a giant lollipop. Using the same concept as Peppermint Forest, I'm going to create lollipop trees by sticking dum dum's through styrofoam cones and covering the entire thing and attaching these to a cardboard base. I'm also going to create a lollipop tree by covering a styrofoam ball with lollipops and then sticking a dowel rod in the styrofoam, and putting the end in a pot and filling the pot with filler so that it stays.
I'm going to attach crumbled green tissue paper to cardboard and poke lollipops through it, and have each kid pick one. Some of them will be marked by a marker, and those will win a small prize. The other's will get to keep their lollipop.
ABC Land- The decorations here will be all kinds of letters, letter blocks, printed letters, etc. Here the activity is going to be finger painting. I am going to have one really large piece of kraft paper covering the table, and each child will receive a section and their own paint to finger paint a masterpiece. The songs here will be the alphabet song, and Mr. Sun. The kids will receive ABC flashcards.
Ice Cream Sea- I will have a little toddler swimming pool set up that will be full of ice cream cones. I'm going to be making ice cream garland, which is just string with cones glued to it. The game here will be to fish out ice cream shaped bubbles for their buckets. I will also have a white tarp around the lake with fake snow and glitter all over it.
The activity here will be to make their own ice cream. It's really simple and it will be a fun activity for the kids, with the help of the parents. The kids will also receive an ice cream shaped bowl and spoon.
Chocolate Swamp- I'm going to paint boxes in a glossy brown for large chocolate chunks. I'm going to put out a large brown table cloth that is cut into a free shape. I'm also going to draw Gloppy on cardboard and attach to foam and put him in the swamp. I'm also going to make mini Hershey trees to put around the swamp by hot gluing hershey wrappers onto cardboard and attaching to a dowel. I'll be making giant Hershey kisses, by covering the bottom 2L bottle with aluminum foil and having a small white paper sticking out of it. I'll also be sprinkling brown krinkles (gift wrap) on the ground.
Barney's House- (This is the end of the game) Will eat, and take pictures with Barney, Baby Bop and BJ. There will be bubble machines going. There will also be more of the Barney balloon clusters, with a huge Barney shaped balloon on top of them. There will be a sing and dance along with Barney and friends, to songs like "Mr. Knickerbocker, Happy and U Know it, If All the Raindrops, and more.
Children's tables will also be set up here. They will have alternating tablecloths, and table ware in the combined colors of Barney and Friends. I will have framed Barney pictures on the tables, as well as mini Barney centerpieces. There will also be candy displays. I'll be using ring pops as holders for the napkins. The chair backs will a Barney and friends photo with large purple ribbon threaded through it.
