So I just realized that with posting everything, I haven't posted the actual outlines of the parties. I've almost completed them, so this still might be a little incomplete.
A Chunky Monkey Party
-Invites-
I'm still playing around with the invitations for this paper. I showed you the paper and bamboo that I will be using in an earlier post, but I haven't quite made up my mind. I really want the outside of the invitation to be a Monkey Face, and then on the back have the printed party information, but I'm not sure if that will even fit in an envelope!
But the lettering will go something like the following:
Join us in the Jungle
Where monkey's see and monkey's do
And there you'll find "Child's name" too!
So, swing on over for some fun
Our chunky monkey is turning one!
Then under that you post the party information.
I am also going to include a mini banana nut loaf with each parent's invitation. For the children, I will probably include a monkey shaped cupcake, made with nilla cookies.
-Decorations-
I had a picture in my head of how I wanted the Jungle to look, and so the first thing I did was draw my house in sections, by decorations. I came up with a sketch for the front yard, the backyard, and the inside of the house. Trust me, I am definitely no artist, so you don't have to be an artist to do this, but you will be glad you did! Just remember the only person that is going to see the sketches is you!
-On the inside of the house-
I am going to set up a craft table, island medic, safari shoppe, and customs station. I will explain more of these under the Activities category. From my chandelier, I am going to hang tons, and tons of brown vines, green vines, and so forth from all corners of the room. I will have a lot of them hanging down. I want it to look very much like a jungle. I may put a jungle scene setter on the walls if I can find one. I'm also going to have tons of monkeys hiding, and swinging in the vines.
-The front of the house-
I'm going to have a balloon display on both sides of my drive way. On each end of the front porch I will have a palm tree. I am making these palm trees, so I'll be posting a tutorial for those later. In the middle of the palm trees, I am hanging a huge banner that will read "Welcome to Victoria's Outpost". I'm going to hang more vines from one palm tree to the other, and hang a monkey on there.
Also, all over the front yard, I'm going to have signs saying different things like "It's a Jungle in Der" "Beware the monkey mischief". On both sides of my garage, I am going to draw and paint a gigantic snake that will be slithering down the side.
-The backyard-
This is where the actual safari will be. I'm going to have six stations, with four obstacles along the way. I will describe this by sections. It's also important to remember, that all throughout the backyard, there will be tons and tons of palm trees, with swinging monkeys, lions, giraffes, etc, as well as tons of vines hanging between the trees and stations.
Butterfly Meadow
I am decorating this section with all kinds of butterflies, store bought ones, and home made ones (out of pipe cleaners, and magazine pictures, i'll post a tutorial on those later as well) I will also be scattering around tons of tropical flowers among the butterflies.
Here, there will be a small children's table with all sorts of different paint and paint brushes, along with butterfly sun catchers and here each child will get to paint their own.
Fish Pond
This is going to be a child's swimming pool that I have set up, that will have crocodiles and turtles in it. I'm also going to be putting those huge river rocks in it.
Here the children will have to fish a gold coin out, which they will have to return to Treasure Trove when they get there!
Campsite
Here, I'm going to set up a mini play tent, camping gear, and scatter plastic lizards everywhere. The children will have to catch the lizards to get there sticker.
Treasure Trove
Here I'm going to have tons of treasure chests full of gems, gold coins, etc. They will have to drop their gold coin into one of the unlocked treasure chests to receive their sticker for this section.
Tiger Den
I'm going to have a huge stuffed tiger sitting among the grass here, and in order to get their sticker, they will have to sing their favorite song to the tiger so that he falls back asleep.
Dragon Fly Hollow
I'm going to have butterfly nets on the ground here, and the children will have to go back through the safari, and catch one of the dragonfly's in their net, and return them back to their home here in Dragon Fly Hollow.
-The Obstacles-
I'm putting an obstacle between each of the stations.
-The Bug Pit-
I will have lots and lots of plastic bugs sitting on the ground, crawling on dirt, etc. I'm also going to be making stepping stones, and painting them. The children will have to avoid walking on the bugs by walking on the stepping stones.
-The Wooden Bridge-
I am going to have tons and tons of snakes, some rubber, some home made, as well hanging spiders and spider web and the children will have to walk across the bridge to avoid the snakes, and duck low to avoid the spiders!
(This will be on the way to treasure trove)
-Trunks-
Here I am just going to cover boxes with brown butcher paper to make them look like huge boulders that the children have to crawl over.
-Bat Tunnel-
I have been calling around for large appliance boxes (Refrigerator, washer, stove, etc) and I have come up with a couple. I've found appliance stores are more than willing to give you their large boxes! I am going to paint the refrigerator box black, and on the inside hang bats.
On top of the refrigerator box, I am going to be stacking diaper boxes that I have been saving, because my goal is for it to be a Fuming Volcano. I'm going to cover the entire thing with black garden tarp. At the top of the volcano, I'm going to have a bucket with dry ice and water, for the "fuming effect". I'll tape the black garden tarp on the inside, so that the bucket doesn't show. This should be amazing.
-Quick Sand-
The last obstacle is the quick sand, which I'm going to have the sand box, and have lots of little action toys that look like they are sinking by the Quick Sand effect. I'm not sure yet what I'm going to have the kids do to get around this though.
-Other MISC. decorations-
moss,
a mini tiki hut,
other misc jungle animals (a few here and there, don't want them to over run the Monkey Theme, but I do want them present, the lion, zebra, giraffe, and especially the elephant)
signs - "Do not feed the animals" "Welcome to the African Jungle" "Wild Animals" "Monkey Hangout"
banana's EVERYWHERE, going to use these as weights for the balloons
-Activities-
Outpost Station- This is where the craft table, customs, safari shoppe, island medic, and camouflage stations will be.
At the craft table, I'm going to have tons of 4x8 pre cut cards on card stock with this cute little poem, and a circle for the child's hand print. I don't want to say too much on this, because I will be having a tutorial when I make Tori's for a sample.
Then they will go to the island medic, which they will receive a malari pill (red jelly bean in a small white cup labeled Malaria pill) and a typhoid shot (fake toy set)
At the customs stations, each child will receive a passport, and get their photo taken and put into the passport. It will also get stamped, and then they will receive their Monkey Money, which they can take to the safari shoppe, and camouflage stations.
At the safari shoppe, they will be able to purchase their survival kits, which will include a pith hat, jungle safari guide, bug juice, the older children will receive a disposable camera for on the safari, the younger children will receive a play camera, binoculars
Then they will go to the camouflage station, where they can get their face painted like a tiger, etc.
-Games-
The Monkey Dance- Going to tie a yellow balloon to child's ankle and each child has to protect their "banana-yellow balloon" while trying to pop the other's. This should be hilarious, and a great photo op
Guess the Animal Sound
Find The Jungle Animals- each child will be given 3 or 4 pictures, and they will have to find the stuffed animal that matches the picture somewhere in the safari.
I will have a ball pit set up for the young ones, the birthday girl included!
Pin the banana on the Monkey's Mouth
Also At Treasure Trove in the Safari, there is going to be a Treasure Hunt in one of the treasure chests. Each child will receive their first clue, to lead them to their treasure, (not sure what this will be yet!" It will be based on the age too, for example, my almost three year old's clues would be pictures, not words, ie: a picture of the slide"
At fish pond, I will have pictures of crocodiles laminated, which I will glue on yard sticks, and each child will receive 10 water balloons, and will have to try and hit them. (Kids love water, so I always try to incorporate something like this into the party)
-Food-
I will be making a meat tray, cheese tray, and toppings tray for the adults to make their sandwiches. For the meat tray, I'll be having ham, salami, turkey, and pepperoni. For the cheese tray, american, Colby, and pepper jack cheese. For the toppings tray, lettuce, onion, tomato, pickles, peppercinis. I'll also be making pasta salad, and macaroni salad.
For the children, I'm going to have PB and J sandwiches cut into jungle animal shapes, monkey macaroni and cheese, cheetah cheese sandwiches, as well as
Baboon Butter with graham cracker sticks (mix peanut butter, chocolate chips and bananas)
Gorilla Eyes- Fruit Skewers made of grapes, with a strawberry at the end
Jungle on a log- Celery sticks with peanut butter
Cheese log- I'm going to form this into the shape of a snake
Monkey Bread
Different kinds of chips, different kinds of veggies with different dips
Dessert- I'm going to set up a Banana Split Bar, with vanilla, chocolate, strawberry ice cream, and all kinds of different toppings, hot fudge, caramel, sprinkles, bananas, whipped cream, etc. I'm also going to set out cups of jello, that have worms and dirt(crushed oreos) and of course cake. I'm almost finished designing the cake with the baker, so I'll be posting pictures of that later.
Drink- I'm going to be making Jungle Juice, and I will have Bug Juices for the kids. I'm going to be freezing ice cubes with raisins inside.
Most of this stuff I'm making all myself, to keep the budget down. Sorry this post was so long! The Candy Land outline coming soon!
These are all great! Please let me know when you have everything complete. I love these plans!.......debbi............dabati@comcast.net
